Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa says working in conjunction with South African Police Service (SAPS), they have decided to close down a 5KM stretch on the N2 Highway near Grabouw due to protests.
He says throwing of stones and burning of tyres on the road has made it very unsafe for motorists.
Talking to CapeTalk’s John Maytham, Africa says the road will remain closed until such time the situation is totally under control.

Africa says his office has deployed officers to safe guard the road for 24 hours a day.
"We don’t want to lose lives because people are driving into obstacles on the N2", he says.
