EFF student command categorically denies vandalising Fort Hare University

Fort Hare students have been accused of burning tires outside the administration block, and torching a tent that was to be used for this weekend's centenary celebrations.

Accusations have been leveled at the EFF, which they categorically deny.

Ntando Sibizo, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Branch Secretary at Fort Hare University, joins Stephen Grootes on the line from the campus.

EFF's student command is part of the protest. However we reject what we have heard, that we are the third force behind the burning of the university.

Ntando Sibizo, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Branch Secretary at Fort Hare University

Sibizo states clearly that EFF student command never had any intention of burning the university.

He says they supported the SRC led protest to go and talk to management, requesting them to come and assist students with the serious issues that have been raised.

Protests were sparked by a lack of student aid funding.

We highly condemn the burning and vandalising of any university property.

Ntando Sibizo, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Branch Secretary at Fort Hare University

Sibizo says EFF have made an appeal to students saying "let us not burn what we have if we want to achieve something."

We understand the nature of politics in this country. When something goes wrong, EFF is always there to be blamed.
