Occupational therapy can help all children improve their life skills

Occupational Therapy is not only for adults but can also help children with occupational challenges. It can help assist children to grow, to learn, do schoolwork, and even play.

And it's not just for children with severe challenges like autism or physical disabilities.

According to Parental Expert Nikki Bush, children who are seen as 'normal' can face developmental delays in their everyday learning and OT can help them enhance their learning process.

Nikki Bush, joined by Cara Weir-Smith, Occupational Remedial therapist, shed light on some of the challenges parents come across. They explain what kind of therapy is available to help support the learning process both at home and in school.

Weir-Smith speaks about occupational therapy which has a sensory integration approach. This approach looks at how children make sense of all the sensory stimulation from their bodies and their surroundings.

What we are talking about today is the miracle of body and brain connection - how the body and the brain communicate.

As the brain takes all the stimulation via the body, eye, ears, the sense of touch and balance... all that information gets send through the body parts. The brain has to process it and the child has to retrieve that information and create a movement.
