John Maytham caught up with The Voice SA winner, Richard Stirton

Richard Stirton walks away with a recording deal from Universal music after winning The Voice SA competition on Sunday.

Universal will be working with Stirton to release his first single and his first album.

John Maytham caught up with the 22 years old B.Com Management student at UCT, to hear about his experience at The Voice SA and winning the competition.

It still hasn’t sunk in. You have no idea, I feel like I am on a cloud. It has been the most surreal 24 hours of my life. It’s unbelievable

Stirton says Universal announced last night that his single will be released in two weeks, which means there will be no time to relax.

To start working on something like that is very exciting but there is a lot of pressure and you have to work hard. No time to relax.

He says his studies will be on hold while he is working on his music career.

I’m going to try this music thing and see what happens. But I do believe I will finish it because I do not like starting something and not finishing it

Stirton believes it was timing and song selection that helped him come on top.
