A new online radio station will officially launch in October this year, dedicated specifically to the continent's LGBTI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex) community.
Gay SA Radio operations manager Hendrik Baird says the platform will allow for LGBTI voices to be represented in conversations and debates affecting them.
We no longer want to keep quiet, we want to add our voice to the conversation.— Hendrik Baird, Gay SA Radio operations manager
Baird says that the station is in a test phase, and the programming will focus mainly on LGBTI content and challenge heteronormative views.
The 24-hour station also hopes to boost the visibility of advocacy groups, health campaigns and raise awareness about other LGBTI initiatives.
