The City of Cape Town’s Naming Committee this week recommended to the City’s Council that Table Bay Boulevard be renamed after former president FW de Klerk.
This follows a public participation process last year. An overwhelming majority of people were in favour of the renaming.
On the list of 30 signatories, who first recommended FW De Klerk, is Henry Jeffreys, former Editor for both Die Burger and The New Age.
Jeffreys believes De Klerk deserves recognition, and we should judge him on his actions, especially the decisive action he took to unban the ANC during his speech at the opening of Parliament on 2 February 1990.
