Thousands of miners are preparing their case against some of South Africa’s biggest gold mining firms.
This follows a recent judgment stating that gold miners who got the lung disease silicosis while working underground – and families of those who died – may launch a class action lawsuit against the companies.
African Rainbow Minerals, Anglo American SA, AngloGold Ashanti, Gold Fields, Harmony and Sibanye Gold have come together to form the Mining Industry Working Group on Occupational Lung Disease to deal with the problem.
