Media24 on Thursday announced that Ferial Haffajee, editor-in-chief of City Press, will be stepping down at the end of July 2016. Haffajee has been with the newspaper since 2009.
Speaking to John Maytham, Haffajee says she recently felt the need to increase her skills and decided this was the right time to do so.
Media24 also reported that Haffajee will be joining business news publisher Bloomberg as a writer in September.
I have been working with Bloomberg for a while now on an African Media Executive Leadership Programme and I have gotten to know and like the company— Ferial Haffajee, outgoing editor-in-chief of City Press
Haffajee says she is hoping to develop good expertise in how to follow the money - understanding of how companies are formed and operated as well as being able to read and understand company accounts in search of dark holes.
She says working on the State Capture and Gupta Gate stories made her realise the gap in her skills that she needed to develop.
I realised I had no idea of how to look very carefully at the Gupta story— Ferial Haffajee, outgoing editor-in-chief of City Press
Media24 said a successor would be announced in due course.
