A group of students at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) have built a racing car worthy of competing in the world’s premier inter-university competition, Silverstone Circuit.
Formula student teams across the globe join forces to design and construct a formula-style racing car that will compete in the annual UK event.
The CPUT team, called Cape Speed, is made up of mechanical and electrical engineer students.
Cape Speed team leader Neeta Makan explains that the racing car is tested on its time and has a speed of between 90 to 110 kilometres per hour.
Unfortunately, Cape Speed has not secured funding to participate in this year's Silverstone event.
Despite this, there is hope that the bright team will enter other competitions on the continent this year.
