Operation Hydrate says that the water crisis continues to place pressure on the project to provide water to areas in need.
Despite the end of the El Niño cycle, poor water infrastructure and insufficient municipal maintenance on water systems leaves many South Africans without water.
Even though we've seen rain in some areas, and the El Niño may be over, the water crisis is still upon us.— Yaseen Theba, co-ordinator of Operation Hydrate
Operation Hydrate co-ordinator Yaseen Theba says that the combination of the drought and the water crisis has had devastating effects on agricultural employment.
According to Theba, the help of corporate companies has allowed the project to distribute over 18 million litres of water and drill more than 40 boreholes countrywide.
The initiative began earlier this year, in a bid to mobilise forces to get water to areas worst affected by the drought.
