Analyst cites 'failed leadership' for Tshwane unrest

Nompumelelo Runji, political analyst, says because of the failure of leadership the Tshwane Unrest could have been nipped in the bud much earlier.

Atteridgeville residents are angry with the election of Thoko Didiza as the ANC's Tshwane mayoral candidate.

Residents have vowed not to vote unless current mayor Kgosientso "Sputla" Ramokgopa continues in the role.

Runji says there was knowledge that there were factional battles in Tshwane.

The ANC tried to unite the region by electing Thoko Didiza as mayoral candidate. We see failure of leadership because this [Tshwane Unrest] should have been nipped in the bud earlier.

Nompumelelo Runji, political analyst.

The political analyst noted that the unrest is because of the link between livelihoods and leadership.

There is also a development of patriarchal network and the factional battles tend to breed this culture.

Nompumelelo Runji, political analyst.

Runji added that the situation calls for strong leadership and it’s difficult to say it whether it will die down soon.
