Brexit verdict up in the air, says UK correspondent

UK citizens are voting on the crucial decision about whether to stay or leave the European Union (EU).

EWN's UK correspondent Gavin Grey says that 46 500 000 citizens have been registered to vote on the matter.

According to Grey, there is not yet any clear indication on which way the vote will go.

In the most recent opinion polls, Grey explains that 10% of the population were undecided on the referendum - equating to 4 500 000 people.

The Brexit campaigners were saying 'vote with your heart' and the remain campaigners were saying 'vote with your head, because we've made our warnings clear about the economy.

This is the third ever referendum in the UK, and the second one regarding the EU.

Meanwhile, political analyst Steven Friedman says that a referendum vote may not be the best way to settle the matter.

Referendums reduce complicated questions to yes or no answers.

He says that citizens are unable to stipulate the conditions under which they would vote for or against an issue.

For this reason, he believes that the results of the vote will not reflect the real sentiments of the British population.

The outcome will be officially announced mid-morning on Friday.
