BMF 'disappointed' by white MTN CEO appointed to replace Sifiso Dabengwa

The Black Management Forum (BMF) says it is disappointed by the appointment of white South African Rob Shuter as MTN Group’s new CEO.

Rob Shuter was named on Monday as the replacement for former CEO Sifiso Dabengwa.

According to BMF, the decision is a snub to transformation efforts in South African businesses.

BMF's Deputy President Dumisani Mpafa says that there is growing trend in the corporate industry to appoint white CEOs.

We are regressing when it comes to transformation. We are not moving forward, and that concerns the BMF.

The forum, which lobbies for black rights, says that there is clearly an "anti-transformation" sentiment which needs to be addressed in the country.

According to Mpafa, companies and board directors need to have clear succession plans in place and invest in qualified black executives.
