Electoral Court will rule after NFP disqualified for late IEC fees

The National Freedom Party (NFP) has been disqualified from the August 3 local government elections, due to a late registration payment to the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC).

NFP secretary general Professor Nhlanhla Khubisa explains that the fee was paid late because the party's national treasurer had confused deadline dates.

It was an administrative error that we admit to.

He says the matter will be heard in the Electoral Court on Friday, after he and other officials asked the IEC to appeal the disqualification.

Khubisa insists that the payment blunder does not reflect the party's ability to effectively govern.
