Prominent 'Brexit' advocate, Boris Johnson, drops out of Prime Minister race

British politician and ex-London mayor, Boris Johnson has announced that he is withdrawing himself as a candidate to be Prime Minister.

This announcement has sent political waves through Britain, and stirred debate within the ruling Conservative Party.

EWN's UK correspondent Peter Anderson says that most of the population believed that Johnson would be the natural successor to David Cameron, who announced his resignation last week.

Boris has been seen as the figurehead of the "leave" vote campaign, with some UK citizens and political leaders blaming him for putting the country in jeopardy, Anderson explains.
