South African actress Nokhutula Ledwaba says landing the role of Kunta Kinte’s mother in the remake of the classic miniseries Roots was an exciting experience, but also scary.
“It’s an out of body experience ,being trusted in that way by a phenomenal director who has directed Harrison Ford, Angelina Jolie and many other big names. Who trusts you in that way, who calls you up and says would you like to do this?”
Responding to some of the negative sentiment surrounding the show, Ledwaba says “Look I was a bit scared too. It’s a painful story to tell and there are certain wounds you open up telling stories like that and people are hurt. Slavery was a crime to humanity, the worst kind of crime.”
