Motsoeneng pulls out of planned meeting with campaigners

SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng has reneged on an agreement to meet with several representatives who are concerned with the state of affairs at the public broadcaster.

The Right2Know (R2K) campaign and the Save our SABC (SOS) Coalition were set to meet with Motsoeneng on Monday morning.

Two pickets were held outside the SABC's offices last week Friday, both in Cape Town and Johannesburg, in support of the suspended journalists expected to face disciplinary action.

Mr Motsoeneng has unilaterally refused us the meeting that he committed to holding with us. He also refused to lift the suspensions of the SABC staffers.

Sekoetlane Phamodi, SOS Coalition coordinator

SOS coordinator, Sekoetlane Phamodi says members have been shut out of the offices, despite the meeting which was arranged to discuss censorship and leadership at the SABC.

Meanwhile, the campaigners await Thursday's ruling from communications regulator ICASA, on whether the SABC's broadcast ban on violent protests is lawful or not.
