African Union set to launch e-Passport

Gershon Mosiane, Chairman of FIPSA (Forum of Immigration Practitioners of South Africa), says the e-passport is not sustainable because the AU needs power to deal with this.

The African Union (AU) is prepared to launch the electronic passport (e-passport) at the next AU Summit tabled to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, in July.

There are security threats like terrorism, would we in South Africa allow someone with a terrorist history be allowed to come into the country?

Gershon Mosiane, Chairman of FIPSA.

Mosiane says the e-passport is a good idea but implementing it is the challenge.

He added that it needs more cooperation in the long run.

In order for all the recipients to acquire the passports, they are strongly encouraged to comply with the needed paper work required to accelerate the processing lead time.
