ANC's Jackson Mthembu lambastes SABC for 'wrong' COO appointment

The ANC’s Jackson Mthembu says that the SABC has disrespected the South African public by implementing its broadcast ban on violent protests without consulting other stakeholders.

It's disrespectful, concerning and [goes against] the public mandate that the SABC carries.

Mthembu was adamant that the right recruitment processes were not followed in the appointment of embattled SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

We cannot, as the ANC, glorify wrong appointments.

He says that the public broadcaster needs to be run by someone competent and with experience.

When that process was not followed at the SABC, I think that things went astray... There are laws in this country.

The party says it wants answers about the SABC's controversial editorial decisions and will hold a meeting with Communications Minister Faith Muthambi on Monday.
