The Friday Stand-In 2016

German ambassador hosts the Redi Tlhabi show with ease

Diplomat and musician, Walter Lindner, brought an interesting perspective to understanding the SABC's local music quota.

The German ambassador had a thought-provoking discussion with legendary musician, Sipho ‘Hostix’ Mabuse, and Macdonald Netshitenze from the Department of Trade and Industry, about what constitutes local music in South Africa.

Is it content or contributors or both? Listen to their conversation below.

See how the ambassador felt before the informative and engaging show. The excitement and acknowledgement of a challenge must have helped.

Lindner ended-off at high note, with listeners sharing their experiences of cultural misunderstandings.

You come to South Africa, people come to you and say 'Good morning, how are you?'. German people say Good and full stop. In Germany 'how are you?' requires an answer. But if you say 'how are you?' in South Africa nobody expects an answer.

Walter Lindner, Friday Stand-In

In Germany when you come from one to five, you start with your thumb. In South Africa you start with the little finger.
