'I heard the pop pop pop of gunfire' - Dallas reporter

Dallas Morning news reporter Hannah wise gives an eyewitness account of the downtown Dallas police shootings last night, where four police officers and one transit police officer were killed by what is believed to be two snipers. Wise says one alleged suspect is dead.

She was assigned to cover the #BlackLivesMatter protest in Dallas yesterday evening and says people were marching peacefully, some even with strollers, and others had even brought their dogs along for the walk. The protest was in reaction to the latest two victims of police shootings in the USA, Philando Castile and Alton Sterling.

Wise says marchers were calling out 'black lives matter', 'enough is enough', and 'no more 444', which is police code for an officer involved shooting. Cars were hooting in support, she says.

After two hours of marching, it turned into a very different scene.

I was about half a block away when the shooting started...i heard the pop, pop, pop of gunfire. At first I didn't quite register what it was. It sounded like someone had driven over an empty container.

People immediately started running backwards yelling, 'they're shooting at us.'

She says 25 blocks of Dallas are still shut down and considered an active crime scene, though the area is considered now safe.

I walk the streets of Dallas every day, and it is never going to be the same again.

Hannah Wise, Dallas Morning News reporter

She says the people of Dallas are trying to unify and an interfaith service is planned for a downtown park in memory of all the lives lost.
