How terrorist groups recruit people in SA

Ryan Cummings, security analyst at Signal Risk says terrorist groups are divided between logistical and operational networks. .

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed four suspects were arrested during house raids over the weekend and are not facing the same charges, as their cases are different.

Twin brothers Brandon-Lee and Tony-Lee Thulsie have been charged with three counts, related to terrorism and appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court this morning.

They have been accused of planning to detonate explosions at a United States (US) Mission as well as Jewish Institutions.

Cummings says when it comes to terrorism networks you need to differentiate between logistical and operational networks.

Groups like al-Qaeda, al-Shabaab have a logistical presence in South Africa by having people who work on recruiting people. They have a logistical presence in South Africa but not necessarily an operational presence.
