SABC slams media for 'misinterpretation' as ANC puts gag on members

The SABC has criticised the media for spreading what is calls false information about its stance on the ruling by communications regulator Icasa.

Icasa ruled that the SABC lift its broadcast ban on violent protests, but SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng wants to take matter to court.

SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago says the national broadcaster has not rejected Icasa's authority, and insists that SABC has the right to review the recommendations.

Meawhile, ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa says that party structures will now stop commenting on the controversial developments at the SABC.

Kodwa says there have been too many plural voices from within the ANC and tripartite alliance.

This comes after ANC’s Jackson Mthembu said the public broadcaster is "showing the middle finger" to the people of South Africa.

Kodwa says ANC structures should allow the official and legal processes to unfold.

Some of the issues that have been ventilated in public would have been better addressed quietly... Our structures must desist from making comments.

Zizi Kodwa, ANC spokesperson
