DTI Initiative boosts trade with rest of Africa through one unified toolbox

A new initiative has been launched by the Department of Trade and Industry to help local business do more trade with the rest of the continent.

Minister of trade and Industry, Rob Davies-Minister joins Stephen Grootes on the line from Pretoria to talk about 'Trade and Investment Africa'.

We are going to bring together all the different offerings in the DTI in a single unit, which we are calling Trade and Investment Africa.

Minister Rob Davies, Department Trade and Industry

It's aim is to support initiatives on the African continent that will be an investment driven trade promotion activity, says Davies. They want to boost economic activity in South Africa, in such a way that will accommodate the desires and needs of the rest of the continent.

They will also be linking this to the recently adopted Code of Good Conduct for South African companies operating across the African continent.

They will provide export incentives together with the services of the export credit insurance corporation, and incentives for capital projects.

In the light of Zimbabwe bans on South African imports, Davies says they have been in conversation with that government.

We have agreed that the Minister of Trade and Industry in Zimbabwe will come to South Africa.

He says there was no consultation with South Africa. They have now provided a list of preferred exports and are awaiting a response.
