Reports that the military has taken control in Turkey

There is a developing story in Turkey where some of the Turkish military have attempted a coup.

Control of the TRT state broadcaster was seized by the military and a statement broadcast although the live stream was still down at 23:30.

The action began just after 9pm local time.

CNN Turkey made contact with the President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on the phone as reported by CBS below.

The Twitter account for the President has posted a call for residents to take to the streets to show support for the government. This is similar to the message he delivered in crossings to CNN Turk and others so far.
