Hawks doing background check on JHB drone pilot who flew over US consulate

The Hawks are investigating a Johannesburg man to eliminate possible terror links after he flew a drone over the US consulate from Sandton City on two separate occasions.

The man was arrested and his drone confiscated to search for video footage or any incriminating evidence.

Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi says the man is not yet a suspect, after the unit conducted a search and interrogation.

He is not a suspect. However, we are doing our bit to look into his background.
