DTI's initiative to build black industrialists and intra-Africa trade

Government is increasing investment in local manufacturing industries through a newly established initiative known as Trade Invest Africa.

Minister of Trade and Industry Rob Davies launched the unit in a bid to boost South African trade across the continent.

According to Trade Invest Africa CEO, Lerato Mataboge, the department will help facilitate intra-Africa trade, improve supplier relationships and add value to the export and import of manufactured products.

Mataboge says that the drive is also focused on providing support and resources to black industrialists, adding to its commitment to the transformation agenda.

She explains that black industrialists include production and manufacturing businesses run by previously disadvantaged persons.

What we are pushing for is not just ownership of shares, it's about being active in the business.
