Top local casting director Moonyeenn Lee has been invited to become a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which judges awards ceremonies such the Oscars.
Lee is the first South African to be chosen among the 683 film professionals invited to become members of the Academy.
Of this achievement, an emotional Lee says it was it was an overwhelming moment for her to realised the honour of the acknowledgment.
With more than 43 years of experience in the industry, Lee started off as an actor and then founded her own casting agency when she moved from London to South Africa.
A self-taught casting director, she is well-known for working on critical films such as Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Life Above All, Hotel Rwanda and Tsotsi.
Lee will be included in the voting for the best films in their various categories and hopes to learn more about the global industry.
