Ekurhuleni Mayor Mondli Gungubele is out assessing the damage after a tornado hit Tembisa on Tuesday.
Gungubele says a preliminary report shows that at least 120 home were affected by the structural damage in the Winnie Mandela section of the township.
More than 30 shops at the mall have been affected by the tornado strike at the Phumulani Mall, in addition to damage caused to a petrol station and local hospital.
Gungubele explains that emergency service officials have been deployed to conduct an audit and help restore homes of the vulnerable as well as public infrastructure.
At least 20 people were injured and dozens more displaced after the twister hit homes in the area.
At least four people have been confirmed dead in the KZN storm.
