According to Dr Darren Green, people die from complications of uncontrolled high blood pressure. He says this is the reason why this sickness is also called a silent killer.
Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps blood. There is a certain minimum pressure required to meet all the vital organs with blood supply. This is the reason why one gets dizzy if there isn't enough supply, says Dr Green.
If the systems pressure is too high it then causes changes on many different target organs— Dr Darren Green, Resident GP
Dr Green says there are many contributing factors to high blood pressure such as age and about 60 - 80% is idiopathic (cause is unknown).
Hypertension is a treatable condition says Dr Green.
When your blood pressure reading is 120/80 it means you are safe but if your blood pressure is consistently 140/90, or higher, you probably have high hypertension.
