Top cop assures election hot spots will remain under control

Acting National Police Commissioner Kgomotso Phahlane insists that the police deployment plan has been successfully rolled out at voting districts across South Africa.

Phahlane explained that 75 000 police officers have been deployed across the country to monitor the situation at all 22 000 voting stations, reports EWN's Barry Bateman.

According to Phahlane, no serious incidents have been reported at election hot spots as yet, despite a shaky start from the IEC.

Vuwani is one of more than 600 high risk areas across the country, which police officers will keep a close eye on.

Phahlane is confident that everything is under control, and will remain so for the rest of the voting day.

He explains the difference between this, inciting violence and political intimidation.
