The 2016 Olympic Games will officially start in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil with the opening ceremony at the Maracana Stadium.

The opening ceremony will get underway at 8pm in Rio, and air on television at 1am on Saturday in South African time.

EWN Sports editor Jean Smyth explains that the parade of nations will kick off the ceremony, with Greece leading out with its team first.
