High Court dismisses Vuyo Mvoko’s application for SABC reinstatement

Axed SABC contributing editor Vuyo Mvoko’s application to get the public broadcaster to reinstate him was dismissed by Judge Fritz van Oosen at the Johannesburg High Court on Friday.

Mvoko had complained that the SABC has not scheduled him ever since he publicly objected the public broadcaster's ban to air protest visuals showing state property being destroyed.

He says even though his case was dismissed today, there are some victories to be counted.

(I am) disappointed and elated, because the way the judge is dealing with the matter does allow to put the matter before a different court.

In the process, we will have an opportunity to at the very least scintillate some of the bigger and broader issues. And that for me is probably the ultimate price.

There are boundless other opportunities that being where we are now offers.

Mvoko explains some of the arguments raised by Judge Oosen.

He kept going back to a position that we perhaps ran ahead of ourselves or put the cart before the horse. Because where he is coming from, we are suppose to allow the SABC to reach a final decision. He seems to be saying, all the SABC has done is to say we think you have breached the terms of your contract, and give us a reason why we shouldn't terminate your contract.

He kept saying you guys are asking me to rule on something that is incomplete.
