Lead SA Western Cape Regional Heroes Announced for 2016

Over the last year, Lead SA has asked the public to nominate ordinary South Africans doing uplifting work in their communities

Each month, two heroes are profiled on LeadSA.co.za as well as sister radio stations CapeTalk and KFM – one of them being a youth hero under the age of 21, the other, over 21 years. These individuals often seek no praise but their contribution to making the world a better place deserves recognition.

The regional Western Cape heroes were announced this morning. Congratulations to Emile Jansen who received the Western Cape Lead SA Hero award.

Emile was selected as our Lead SA Hero of the month for harnessing his creativity to empower and inspire young people. He has dedicated his life to changing the lives of young people in the Cape Flats and since 1998 has impacted thousands of lives through his Heal the Hood project. The project started as an informal community-based volunteer organisation and provides an alternative cultural experience for Cape Flats youngsters.

Cadi de Jager received the Western Cape Lead SA Youth Hero award.

She was selected as our May Lead SA Youth Hero for taking the initiative to raise money for the Red Cross Children’s Hospital just to say thank you for the treatment she received at the hospital. Cadi was diagnosed with Rathke’s Cleft cyst a couple of years ago. She spent time in the Red Cross Children's Hospital and has now become an ambassador for the ‘Children’s Hospital Trust’, sharing her story. She is a true and natural champion of the ICU public appeal, having been a beneficiary at the Hospital last year.

The Dischem Foundation has donated R250 000 to support charities chosen by the regional and national winners.

The regional Gauteng winners will be announced on the 15th August and the overall winners will be honoured at Lead SA’s Change Makers Conference on the 20th August 2016.
