Coalition partnership could taint EFF's image, either way - columnist

The EFF risks serious reputational damage if it enters into coalition government with either the ANC or DA, says columnist Gareth Van Onselen.

He says the red berets have established their political brand as fundamentally distinct from the other two popular parties.

Onselen explains that the EFF's radical, revolutionary and socialist ideals could be compromised if they chose the wrong bedfellows.

The EFF is in a very tight spot at the moment.

The ruling party and official opposition are looking to smaller parties to gain majority in contested metropoles where they were neck-and-neck.

According to Onselen, ideological distance and political tensions will have to be negotiated to reach a compromise and find a common ground.
