Money matters on copyright in music

Gabriel Gabi Le Roux, Songwriter, Composer and Producer, says if a song sounds similar to another song it doesn’t mean that copyrights have been infringed upon.

Wiseman Ngubo, Business Affairs Manager at CAPASSO, spoke about the certainty of knowing your music was used without credit.

Ngubo said there are songs that are deemed to be in the public domain can be used without having to pay any royalties.

He gave the example about Mgarimbe, famous for Sister Bettina, who re-used Timbaland’s Try Again for Sister Bettina.

I can tell you now that Mgarimbe probably didn’t get a single publishing cent for that song.
