Chikane: I warned ANC to self-correct or face losing more power

ANC veteran Reverend Frank Chikane says the spirit of the ruling party is under attack not from external forces but from its own members and leaders.

During a press briefing in Guateng, Chikane says he warned the ANC that if changes were not made, the consequences would be drastic.

Chikane has now publicized the letter which he had sent to ANC leadership in September 2015 outlining concerns and predictions of waning party support.

The ANC lost outright control of Joburg, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni and Nelson Mandela Bay among other municipalities.

Chikane says he believes the outcome of the municipal election would have been different if the ANC had taken heed of his advice.

He says he had consulted with party veterans who all agreed that the ANC has to change its way or face consequences.

People will withdraw their mandate and lose confidence. The ANC needs to change course so that it can serve the people.

Rev Frank Chikane, ANC veteran

According to Chikane, he went through all the internal channels until a meeting with the ANC's top six at Luthuli House in March before making the letter public.
