Deadline for pensioners rates rebates looms

Residents who are 60 year and older, and occupy a residential property as their primary property of residence with their total household income less than 15 000 a month could qualify for rates rebates ranging from 10% to 100%. This is according Alderman Ian Neilson, Executive Deputy Mayor for the City of Cape Town.

Neilson says every time there is a general re-evaluation of rebates, they request that people apply for rebates. He says even those who have applied successfully before need to reapply, as they need to assess if the person still qualifies.

To apply, pensioners can go to the city's cash office and fill in a form. Proof of income and recent tax statement or recent bank statement will be required.

The application for the deadline for submission of application for 2016 -2019 is 31 August 2016.
