Herman Mashaba says he would be prepared to step down as mayoral candidate if the DA ever asked him to.
Without any doubt [I would step aside]. It's not about me. It's about the country.— Herman Mashaba, DA mayoral candidate
This comes after EFF leader Julius Malema said the red berets don't want Mashaba as mayor because he hates his black skin and has disrespected poor black people with his capitalist views.
Malema announced that they would not enter into a coalition partnership with the DA, but said the EFF would vote with them in hung metros, including Johannesburg.
Mashaba says he is unfazed by Malema's remarks and believes that the DA wants him just where he is.
Fortunately the party has made it abundantly clear that I am their mayoral candidate, and that is something I will respect.— Herman Mashaba, DA mayoral candidate
I don't think anyone would expect me to respond to such utterances.— Herman Mashaba, DA mayoral candidate
Mashaba insists that the only people he is accountable to are his party and 38% of Johannesburg voters who want him in power.
He explained that DA leader Mmusi Maimane has told him to dismiss the challenge made by Malema as he prepares to be sworn in next week.
