ANC chant 'Asinavalo' as Tshwane council prepares to swear in Msimanga as mayor

Proceedings are underway as the the metro council sits for its first meeting to elect a new Tshwane mayor.

DA's Solly Msimanga is expected to be elected in as mayor today, after the EFF vowed to vote with them in the hung metro.

EWN's Masa Kekana reports that the ANC caucus arrived in the council chambers and assumed their new position while singing their singing election song "Asinavalo".

She says the ruling party members appear to be in a jovial mood, while there are questions being asked on the whereabouts of the mayoral chain.

It's reported that the mayoral chain has been stolen.

We do know from a reliable source that apparently the mayoral chain went missing some time ago, and outgoing mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa was using a fake one all along.

It’s understood Msimanga will not announce his mayoral committee today, but probably do so at the next meeting which is scheduled for next week.
