MK Chief Kebby Maphatsoe says ANCYL must put brakes on early elective conference

The head of the MK Military Veterans Association Kebby Maphatsoe says the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) call to hold an early ANC conference will not be feasible.

The ANCYL yesterday said it wanted the party to hold an early elective conference because its current leadership was entangled in difficult issues following the municipal elections.

The ANC is due to hold a conference to elect a new leader next year, and Maphatsoe says an early conference would not be practical considering all the logistics involved.

He says that while he shares the concerns of the youth league, it will be almost impossible to make that special conference.

As much as I understand their view, an early conference won't make any change because a conference is next year.

Meanwhile, political analyst Somdoda Fikeni suspects that the ANCYL has made the proposal under the influence of other senior party members, such as the so-called "Premier League".
