Ingula power station costs said to have escalated to R36 billion

The new Ingula power station, on the border between KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State, has allegedly seen costs spiral from R8.9bn to R36bn.

Matthew le Cordeur says it is worrying that another Eskom project has gone over budget. He says an interview on Carte Blanche revealed that an underground contractor was paid billions more that they should have in bonuses, advances and events.

Its important to know that Eskom had said everything is above board, they defend their contractors and from their point of view everything is in line...

Le Cordeur says the DA wants Eskom to appear before Parliament and account for exactly what happened. According to sources, an accident in 2013 which left six people dead, resulted in Eskom paying contractors billions in compensation, says le Cordeur.

He says this allegations needs a proper investigation in order to get to the bottom of the events that occurred.
