Thousands of fans gathered at OR Tambo International Airport to welcome home Team South Africa as they returned from the Rio 2016 Olympics Games on Tuesday morning.
The team arrived home having bagged a record ten medals, including two gold from track stars Wayde van Niekerk and Caster Semenya.
EWN Sport's Mark Lewis reports that all three tiers of the arrival halls were packed with excited fans holding flags and banners.
Lewis says Caster Semeya received the loudest reception and looks fitter, stronger and healthier than ever coming off the back of her Olympic victory on Sunday.
When Caster Semenya's name was called out, the airport literally rumbled underneath my feet... She's by far the most popular sports superstar right now.— Marc Lewis, EWN Sport reporter
The crowds also went crazy for swimmer Chad le Clos and long jump silver medalist Luvo Manyonga, who hopes to go for gold in Tokyo 2020.
The medalists were awarded excellence awards from Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula following their strong showing at Rio 2016.
South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) says its impressed with the medal count, and Lewis predicts the tally will be even higher in at the next Games with new talent emerging.
