Sotheby's CEO arrested in connection with wife's murder

Jason Rohde, Chief Executive Officer of Sotheby International Realty was arrested in Johannesburg on Tuesday morning in connection with the death of his wife.

Susan Rohde's death was initially reported as a suicide, but after investigations police changed the case to murder. Her body was found in a bathroom of an upmarket Stellenbosch hotel.

According to Eye Witness News reporter Masego Rahlaga, Susan Rohde was found in the bathroom in a kneeling position with a hair straightener cord tied around her neck.

Eleven days after her death and after the postmortem was done, police changed the charges to murder because bruises found on her neck showed that there was some form of strangulation.

Rohde's lawyer is not happy with the manner his client was arrested. He says there was an agreement that his client would hand himself over to the police should that become necessary, and that he had agreed to cooperate with procedure.

Rohde was arrested by eight police officers very early on Tuesday morning, a process which is believed to have left his teenage daughters very traumatised.
