Pravin Gordhan saga now rests with the NDPP

EWN's barry Bateman reporting from Tshwane, says there has neen no comment from the Hawks at this stage about the case relating to Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and former Sars employees Ivan Pillay and Johann Van Loggerenberg who were summoned for questioning at their headquarters on Thursday.

Gordhan under advice from his legal team did not show up. Van Loggerenberg and Pillay were questioned.

Bateman says the Hawks say they will not comment on an ongoing investigation.

He says it seems all the statements by the minister and former Sars employees will be placed in a docket and sent to the National Director of Public Prosecutions, Shaun Abrahams, for a decision on whether or not to charge these individuals.

That's where the decision is going to be made.

Bateman says more civic organisations and individuals have come out in support of Pravin Gordhan and spoken of this unrelenting attack by the Hawks.

Politcal analyst Somadoda Fikeni says it seems these actions are an attempt to weaken and remove Pravin Gordhan's focus and push him to resign.

Many of the State entities now it would appear, either are deliberately being used, or those inside them are using them, hoping that they send a signal to those they think they are trying to help.

He says the silence from the ANC could be a sign of the succession battles playing out.

The lack of a coherent message from the ANC might just be the fact that when the ANC speaks, you ask which ANC? Because it is so fragmented at this point.

He was not surprised by Sipho Pityana's attack yesterday and said it was a perfect platform to speak to the nation and ANC members and leaders that were in attendance.

He says Zuma's absence may relate to a sense of vulnerability he is feeling, since the silent protest by four women at the IEC centre. He may not feel he knows how to handle the situation where people are becoming more outspoken.
