Prasa won't comment on leaked media briefings

The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) will not comment on leaked information, after it emerged that Transport Minister Dipuo Peters wrote a letter to Prasa Chairperson Popo Molefe, instructing him to shut down an ongoing investigation into irregularities at the rail agency.

Speaking at a media briefing today, Prasa's Acting CEO Collins Letsoalo says that investigations into irregularities at Prasa will continue, because this was recommended remedial action from the Public Protector.

Letsoalo also said that although Prasa managed to reduce its deficit in the past year, he is not happy that the rail agency achieved about 47% of its performance targets.

EWN's Gia Nicolaides spoke to Xolani Gwala, summing up Prasa's media briefing.

Prasa received an unqualified report and managed to reduce the deficit from 1 billion rand to 372 million rand

His (Letsoalo) job is to try to stabilise Prasa... to ensure the investigations and finances at Prasa speed up, and commuter services speed up
