The science behind the frequency of washing your clothes

How often do you wash your clothes?

Contemporary fashion trends and the growing need to conserve water and energy have made it relevant for people to wash clothes less frequently.

According to Dr Rachel McQueen, Associate Professor in Textile Science at the University of Alberta, people do not need to wash their denims as much as they did in the past.

I'm not necessarily advocating people that people should wear their jeans for six months a year without washing. But I'm very interested in looking at if everyone can wash their jeans less frequently than they do, then maybe they can prolong the life of their jeans

Dr McQueen has conducted research on odour within textiles and the sustainability of textiles.

Speaking to #NightTalk's Gugs Mhlungu and Sizwe Dhlomo, Dr McQueen explains the impact of odour on clothes, and how often one should do their washing.
