There's are a lot of myths out there about sexual health and sexologist Dr Eve looks at debunking them.
She says sexual health is not just about diseases and infections its about the politics of the personal. She is against the notion that sexual health be put into the context of medicalisation. It is also about pleasure, she says.
Its about who you find attractive, Its about your gender, about sexism and feminism, the things you enjoy versus the things you dont enjoy. Its about you as a whole person— Dr Eve, clinical sexologist
Sexual health is also about your right to pleasure. It also involves coercion and violence. People have a right to know that it is not a sexually healthy behaviour that they are getting themselves into.— Dr Eve, clinical sexologist
Dr Eve went on to debunk some myths around sexual health like 'masturbation is sinful and that it is another form of cheating'. She says some of these myths cause harm and get in the way.
Other myths she bust wide open were around beliefs that women must have vaginal orgasms, or that men need to be able to maintain an erection for hours.
