Delays on Metrorail's central line

Metrorail regional manager Richard Walker says continued vandalism is the source of ongoing delays on the train service's central line.

17 trains have been cancelled on the central line due to cable theft, causing delays of between 30 to 40 minutes.

We have a problem with deliberate vandalism out in Central. For two consecutive days now we've had cables stolen and an apparatus case that was severely vandalised in Langa.

Richard Walker, Metrorail regional manager

Walkers says that Metrorail has escalated the latest spate of vandalism to the police.

Metrorail has lost at least 60 trains coaches to arson attacks since October 2015.

He says that the rail service plans to restore and replace 88 the train carriage sets back into operation by January 2017.
