Weather service predicting rain for Gauteng

We currently have a surface trough system over the western parts of the country and we do expect some showers and thunder showers mainly later this evening around the Vereeniging side of Gauteng.

Wayne Venter, SA Weather Service

Venter says they do not forecast rain for Johannesburg or Pretoria today or tomorrow.

He says a system is predicted to move through this area over the weekend, and should bring rain to Gauteng and Eastern parts of the country from Saturday into Sunday.

Will Gauteng be seeing rain this summer?

Our Sigma forecasts are showing normal to about normal rainfall for the summer season and late spring season.

Wayne Venter, SA Weather Service

This area will continue to have abnormal maximum temperatures and below normal rainfall for now, but he says dams should fill up later when the weak low pressure system kicks in during summer.
